PROSPERO ANO – 1 YEAR 9 MO. 28 DAYS

My hair is in a net and I am dishing out cold salads into plastic trays. I’m a bilingual college graduate disguised as a middle school lunch lady, and it’s New Year’s Eve 2010.

Picture of the aftermath.

We are a team of seven in charge of getting the 400 food boxes ready for everyone in the barrio. Food was EVERYWHERE: in my flip flops on my jorts (yes. jorts. okay?).

I have an entirely knew respect for those in education’s food service industry, and also I complete awareness that flip flop cuisine is disgusting.

The night brought everyone to the basketball court in the middle of the neighborhood. There was a dance competition, karaoke and fireworks. And at 12? No kissing just everyone running to hug the nearest person and say, “Congratulations.”

Happy New Year everyone! Congratulations.
