This past week I journeyed down to the southern part of the island to send off a group of volunteers – for a despedida, a farewell, a goodbye…
And now it begins… you know, that feeling… the one that comes with being a senior. The one that has every fourth year high school kid partying one minute and freaking out the next: the feeling of unknown.
I am taking a serious look at these next five and half months and wondering just what exactly they will bring. It’s a feeling of excitement but also terror.
Watching my fellow volunteers celebrate this transition started this feeling. But don’t get me wrong, IT WAS A BLAST hanging out with them this past weekend!
Beach-time. Dancing. Laughing. Hiking. Eating. Zip-lining at Casa Bonita?!!
Goodbye you guys! Que se vayan bien y con Dios!

Justin, one of those who is one the way out, got us free zip-lining through an ex-volunteer at Casa Bonita!

"Located in Barahona, in the still unspoiled and secluded southwest region of the Dominican Republic, adjacent to the only biosfere reserve in the country. Casa Bonita sits on a hilltop with an impresive view of the Caribbean Sea, nestled within a vast tropical forest surrounded by rivers and mountains. This former private vacation retreat, still family owned, provides twelve rooms, “cabaña” style, that dramatically overlook its surroundings."
